About Dave Seah

Dave Seah 2008

There are four general areas that I write about: design, development, inspiration, and self-empowerment. I get most excited by people making things and making positive changes in their lives in the face of doubt and uncertainty. I myself am in that very spot, so I write a lot about topics related to productivity, and have created several free tools to serve as concrete examples of my thinking.

In traditional design terms, you can categorize me as an "information architect specializing in data visualization and graphics". In practical terms, I like making graphics that make sense to people by clarifying the ambiguous. However, I prefer to think of myself as an an investigative designer. As a designer, I like getting deep into the context of a problem or scenario, figuring out the motivations and desires of all the players involved, and then writing/developing/designing/making the "props" that will effectively encourage positive change.

What's most important to me, however, is to be around positive-minded, self-empowered, conscientious and kind people that value quality, competence, and reliability in their friends.

Work Availability

I am currently booked through November 2008 on a museum project.

Other Information

About the Site

I recently switched from WordPress 2.1.3 to Expression Engine 1.6, a commercial Content Management System (CMS).

The design of the website is a hacked-up version of the classic Movable Type 1.0 template, which was then converted to WordPress 1.0, and updated over the next couple of years as my knowledge of CSS grew oh so very slowly.

Supporting the Site

I'm sometimes asked if there is a way to make a donation for the tools and articles I've made available on this site. After years of resisting the idea, I was convinced by a reader that by NOT accepting donations, I was not allowing people to express their appreciation in return. That struck a nerve, because I believe that a person must be able to graciously give and receive to lead a balanced and fulfulling existence. Thus cornered by my own principles, I acceded.

I am making a "support the site" button available in the form of a tip jar, with the tip amount fixed at $5.00. Thank you for reading and supporting my projects. Please leave a note with your donation too and tell me a bit about yourself, if you are so inclined.

Click the pig to make your donation to me on PayPal; for non-PayPal users, just click on the credit card links and ignore the PayPal login. And if you like the pig illustration, you can download it here as a bonus "thank you" :-)

Thanks for reading!

Dave
